HBOT Facts
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is the process of breathing 100% oxygen in a carefully controlled, pressurized environment, resulting in increased oxygen delivery to the body tissue.
Specially designed "chambers" safely administer the oxygen needed. Patient's plasma is saturated with oxygen resulting in increased oxygen delivery to the tissues.
This increased oxygen activity enhances the body's ability to heal.
TREATMENT WORKS BY:
- Saturating patient's plasma with oxygen
- Increasing oxygen delivery to oxygen-deprived areas
- Enhancing white-blood-cell activity in killing bacteria
- Reducing edema (swelling) by constricting blood vessels without causing oxygen deprivation
- Stimulating the formation of new small blood vessels (angiogenesis)
- Blocking the toxic effects of carbon monoxide and cyanide
- Enhancing the effects of some antibiotics
HYPERBARIC CHAMBER SIZE
In order for the body to receive higher levels of oxygen, a special pressurized environment or chamber must be used. Chambers are large enough to accommodate six patients and spacious enough for standing or stretching. Patients may read, sleep or even watch a video.
HOODS & MASKS
Patients are comfortably seated inside and fitted with hoods or masks that allow the patient to breath 100% oxygen at elevated atmospheric pressure. The hoods are large and made of clear plastic allowing you to see easily. Patient waiting rooms and dressing rooms are available for convenience and privacy.
COMFORT & SAFETY
Treatment time varies depending on the patient's particular need. Average treatments range from 75-150 minutes.
A medical professional administers each treatment and monitors each patient's needs.
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is essentially painless, however, some patients may experience slight discomfort in their ears, similar to that experienced with altitude change as during air travel or driving in the mountains.
